Apple chutney

2 tart cooking apples peeled cored and chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon allspice
Combine all ingredients in saucepan and stir well. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer, covered, for 40 minutes. Uncover and simmer off remaining excess liquid. Can refrigerate for two weeks.
